Alhaji Mohammed Limuna Muniru, the new Northern Regional Minister who was recently reshuffled from the Upper East Region, has urged the people of the Region to help with useful suggestions for the rapid development of the area.

He said he was not in politics to lie but to work with principles, which included truthfulness and honesty and warned that anyone who came to him with lies to cause disaffection towards an opponent would not be tolerated. ?Let?s expose the liers and move forward?, he added.

Alhaji Muniru made the call on Wednesday when he officially took over from Mr Bede Ziedeng, the outgoing Northern Regional Minister who has also been reposted to the Upper West Region.

Alhaji Muniru told the huge crowd that had assembled to welcome him that lies in the past had drawn back the development of the Region, noting that it was inimical to the positive agenda he had come to pursue, adding that: ?I am very vibrant and time conscious ?.let us form a formidable team to move the Region forward?.

Mr Bede Ziedeng, the outgoing Regional Minister catalogued some of the achievements his administration had chalked in the past one year, citing education, health and roads construction as areas that received positive investments.

He said the Region would be benefiting from 15 of the Community Senior High Schools being constructed nationwide and that education was critical to the development of the Region.

Mr Ziedeng commended various stakeholders in the area who played various roles during his term of office and expressed worry about the recent breach of peace in the area, adding that calm had since returned after the Bimbilla and Tamale riots.

Alhaji Muniru had earlier received a rousing welcome to the Northern Region by enthusiastic National Democratic Congress party supporters, friends and family members on his arrival at the Tamale Airport.

Many of the youths who welcomed him displayed various NDC paraphernalia while engaging in some gymnastics with their motorbikes. Others followed slowing with their vehicles creating traffic jams as he was ushered into the Tamale township.

Alhaji Muniru is a native of Damongo in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region and is widely expected to make a significant mark in the development of the Region. GNA
