Six illegal SIM box operators have been nabbed by the Telecom Fraud Task Force during a nationwide operation to haunt for illegal activities of Sim box operators of which thousands of SIM cards were recovered. Two of the victims are on the run.


The culprits include, Ebeneser Boateng,Victor Owusu, Kwadjo Asare, Emmanuel Kofi Essilfie, Edmond Essilfie, Kweku Appiah, Alvin Habib, Francis Abbey, David Ayitsi, Daniel Nehme a Lebanese. The arrest was made in Koforidua, Accra, Batsoona, Kumasi and Tema.

The taskfoce is made up of the CID Headquarters, officials from the National Communications Authority (NCA), Telecom Service providers in Ghana with technical support from SUBAH Info Solutions Ghana Limited.

Some of the items retrieved from the operation include, SIM box equipments, SIM cards from the various telecommunication networks, computers, laptops, heavy duty battries, internal antennas,ACP battery backup and internet routers.

At a news conference in Accra, the CID Commissioner, Mr. Prosper Kwame Agblor said the operation has been one of the biggest and most successful carried out by the taskforce.
He noted that the suspects have so far been arraigned before court and are currently on remand pending further investigation.

Mr. Agblor stated that in a matter of 5 to 7 months, Ghana lost USD 33,592,320.00 in revenue, calling on landlords to flush out tenants who use their premises for such acts.

The Minister for Communications, Dr. Omane Boamah in a brief statement noted that, the ministry is currently working on a project dubbed: ?inter connect clearing house? which when completed in December this year will help in tracking down such operators in the system.

He called on the Chief Justice to expedite the court process anytime such cases are brought to court. This he said will go a long way to clamp down on such criminal activities.
Dr. Boamah urge the telecom companies to ttightents systems to be able to track down on illegal SIM box operators to be able to save the country of the continues huge revenue loss.
