IMF commends Tanzania over fight against COVID-19 pandemic

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday commended Tanzania for its commitment toward the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, saying the east African nation is on the right track.

Jens Reinke, the IMF resident representative for Tanzania, said the IMF has been impressed by efforts Tanzania is undertaking in the fight against the pandemic and its economic recovery plans.

Reinke made the remarks at a press conference in the capital Dodoma organized by the Minister for Finance and Planning, Mwigulu Nchemba, to explain how the government planned to spend 567.25 million U.S. dollars approved recently by the IMF.

“The government of Tanzania has shown commitment for economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic and the future looks brighter,” said the IMF official.

Nchemba said the loan will also help in revamping mostly hit sectors of the national economy, including education, tourism, health, water as well as supporting the poor households through the Tanzania Social Action Fund. Enditem
