India Monday sent its first plane to evacuate Indians stranded in the war-ravaged Yemen, sources said.

“An aircraft of the country’s national carrier, Air India, took off for Yemen’s capital Sana’a around 8 a.m. (local time) from the national capital. It is going to return with the first batch of stranded Indians in the evening,” the sources said.
India had Sunday got permission from Sana’a to evacuate Indians stuck in Yemen.
India is also in the process of sending a ship with a capacity of 1,500 passengers, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had tweeted.
Some 3,500 Indians, mostly nurses, are in Yemen where a Saudi Arabia-led coalition has started a military offensive to restore the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, which has been overrun by Huthi rebels and some army units loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Enditem
