Indian soldier survives avalanche incident for six days

An Indian soldier miraculously survived for nearly six days after being buried under snow in an avalanche which hit a military post last week in Indian-controlled Kashmir, local media reported on Tuesday.

The survivor was one of the 10 soldiers buried in the avalanche at the Sonam post in the Siachen glacier last Wednesday, according to the Times Now TV channel.

He was found alive in the rescue operations at the 19,600-feet altitude on Monday, said the report.

In the rescue operations, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad was the lone survivor of the 10 in the avalanche. The other nine were confirmed dead, said Northern Army Command chief Lt-General D. S. Hooda early Tuesday morning.

“The medical condition of L/N Hanamanthappa is critical but all attempts are being made to evacuate him to the Army Research & Referral Hospital (in New Delhi) on Tuesday morning. We hope the miracle continues. Pray with us,” he was quoted as saying. Enditem
