Interfaith dialogue response project ends

The Northern Regional Peace Council has ended the interfaith dialogue response group under a project called GH010 funded by USAID/ Littorals Regional Initiative (LRI).

Mr Mumin Mutaru, Senior Programme Development Officer, USAID LRI stated that USAID/Littorals Regional Initiatives undertook a six-month dialogue session with religious leaders and owners of media houses in the Northern Region to create awareness among them and communities.

He said the project promoted a culture of dialogue and communal understanding amongst the religious leaders and media house owners in the north.

He indicated that so far, the six month-dialogue meetings organised by Northern Regional Peace Council educated the religious leaders to fight violent behaviour, come together and use the collective might of religious institutions for peaceful existence.

Mr Mutaru urged religious leaders to uphold mutual understanding between different religious faiths to promote peaceful coexistence.

Alhaji Nurideen Moomen Ahmadiygs, Member of Northern Regional Peace Council advised religious leaders and the media to strengthen capacity for managing diversity and conflict issues in their communities to promote a culture of conflict sensitivity among media houses in the region.

He urged religious leaders and media houses to prevent tension from erupting into violence in the region.
Dr Eliasu Mumuni, Lecturer, and Head of Department of Communication, Innovation and Technology, Faculty of Communication and Cultural Studies, University for Development Studies called on religious leaders and media houses to create awareness on emerging security threats, urging them to respond to threats using their respective spheres of influence.

He also advised religious leaders and media to ensure ethical conduct in their institutions to resolve common threats to peace in the region.

Reverend Father Thaddeus Kuusah, Executive Secretary of Northern Regional Peace Council, urged the media and religious leaders to support the Peace Council in building sustainable peace in the region.
