Is Allotey Jacobs competent to represent Ghana on fuel issues?

According to Bright Simons, President of mPedigree Network writes on his that, “the problem in this country is that we are solely interested in titillating gossip and personal scandal.

Allotey Jacobs,
Allotey Jacobs,

Imagine if instead the rumours and press interest had focused on clarifying whether indeed Mr. Jacobs is on official duties on behalf of the State to visit Authentix in Addison, Texas, as claimed, and whether Mr. Jacobs is in fact the most capable expert of our national fuel supply chain system to be engaged in these very complex discussions around fuel integrity programs. Instead, he is being accused of dealing drugs.

I hope those who have succeeded in distracting attention from the more salient matters apologise both to the man and the public.”

The Central regional chairman of the NDC Bernard Allotey Jacobs, who is on an official assignment abroad, has described as stupid a question posed to him by Richard Sky of Citifm which bothers why he flew on business class but was not a government Minister.

The question did not go down well with him. He therefore described it as “stupid adding that
it is “pissing him off.”

Government has directed that all government ministers who embark on official foreign travels on first class tickets have been directed by the presidency to stop with immediate effect.

Government has also directed all its ministers to cut down on foreign travels in a bid to curtail government spending.

This was issued in a letter from the office of the president and signed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.

According to the statement, “It is needless to emphasise the serious impact the current frequent travels abroad by Ministers and Public officials are having on government finances,” he said.

The letter further directed the ministers to use business class instead of first class flights when need arises.

“To arrest the situation, all Hon. Ministers are reminded to restrict foreign travels in their sectors to mandatory international assignments only. All non-essential travels are to be stopped. Hon. Ministers are also entreated to travel by Business Class and not first class, as stated in the letter,” the statement added.

Last week, a public claim was made that Mr Jacobs was ‘escorted’ from  a seat in Row 15 in business class.

According to the NDC firebrand, he was never accosted by any security official at the Heathrow airport in the UK as being suggested by his accusers.

The British High Commission has dismissed reports of his arrest claiming that, there was absolutely no evidence of money laundering or drugs.

Allotey Jacobs is board member of National Petroleum Authority.
