PRESIDENT MAHAMA Tuesday morning stormed the police headquarters in Kumasi to see for himself the massive transformation that has taken place in a spate of 10 months since DCOP Kofi Boakye was appointed the regional police commander.
The impromptu visit saw the president inspecting the ultra-modern 250-capacity conference room, named after IGP Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan; the tiling of the entire headquarters; glasses fixed; motorbikes presented to the police by individuals; among other things.
President Mahama, who looked thrilled about the gargantuan infrastructural development, was during the inspection of the Mohammed Alhassan Conference Room, seen uttering, ?This is a mark of proper leadership.?
In the president?s entourage were the Ashanti Regional Minster, Samuel Sarpong and his deputy, Joseph Yammin; Kojo Bonsu, the KMA Chief Executive, among others.
Sharing his impression about what he had witnessed with the media, President Mahama, without mincing words, stated emphatically, ?The Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters is the most beautiful police regional headquarters in the country.?
Praise
He showered tonnes of praises at DCOP Kofi Boakye for his visionary and exemplary leadership style which had contributed to make the police headquarters a beautiful edifice. He suggested, ?I think we should have similar regional headquarters across the country.?
President Mahama particularly commended DCOP Kofi Boakye for his wisdom to solicit support from the public to ensure that the police headquarters was developed into an international standard, noting that it was a sign of better leadership style.
President Mahama, on behalf of the police service, thanked the corporate bodies and individuals in the Ashanti Region who generously assisted the regional police boss to realize his dream.
The president, who was beaming with smiles throughout the inspection period, urged DCOP Kofi Boakye, nicknamed ?Commander One,? not to rest on his oars but rather continue with his exemplary service to enhance the image of the police.
DCOP Kofi Boakye?s good works in the region had attracted commendations from prominent personalities in society such as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan.
Crime has reduced significantly in the Ashanti Region since DCOP Kofi Boakye took over as the regional police commander. Police facilities in the region, including the police headquarters, Asokwa, Suame and Oforikrom police stations, had experienced massive infrastructural transformation.
