Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday that Israel will invest 60 million U.S. dollars in COVID-19 research and development.

Netanyahu pledged the amount at the Coronavirus Global Response Pledging virtual event, which was initiated by the European Union and attended by dozens of world leaders.

Netanyahu said in his speech that “to ensure both public health and national prosperity, we must all work together on improving diagnosis, accelerating therapies and ultimately developing a vaccine.”

“I am confident that Israel’s leading research institutions, its world-renowned scientists and our unique culture of innovation can enable us to play an important role in advancing solutions on all three fronts,” Netanyahu said.

He added that “Israel hopes to work with other countries to leverage its unique capabilities to find solutions for the benefit of all.”

The video conference focused on improving the coordination of international efforts to develop coronavirus solutions, with a focus on the development of a vaccine, drugs, medical devices and diagnosis. Enditem
