“Soon Cote d’Ivoire’s opposition parties will have the means to finance their activities,” Kouadio said when he spoke during an official ceremony in the central town of Toumodi.
He said the framework for the implementation of the proposal had already been developed and the amount to be distributed will be known soon.
The minister said the move will help to reinforce democracy in Cote d’Ivoire.
“Dialogue between the government and the opposition was never interrupted. There’s that which we do officially and that which is done secretly. We are slow but sure,” Kouadio said, adding that the government will respect its commitments to the opposition.
The issue of funding political parties was one of the points at the center of internal discussions between the Cote d’Ivoire government and the opposition.
The other issues included freezing of the bank accounts of confidants of ex-president Laurent Gbagbo and release of prisoners detained in relation to the 2010-2011 post-election violence. Enditem
