Cote d’Ivoire will on Friday host the 2024 African Sport Tourism Forum (FAST) in its economic capital Abidjan, with more than 200 key players from Africa’s sports, tourism and finance industries expected to participate.

This event for synergy between the sports and tourism sectors in favor of sustainable economic growth on the African continent coincides with the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which is taking place in Cote d’Ivoire.

Samba Bayhily, co-founder of FAST and chief executive officer of Africa Development Solutions (ADS) Group, said the forum aims to catalyze collaboration between sport, tourism and investment in Africa, providing unprecedented opportunities for the continent’s growth and development.

FAST 2024 offers thematic panels focusing on the promotion of African tourism through sport, the role of African athletes as legitimate ambassadors of tourism, solutions for sustainable collaboration between athletes and national tourism development agencies in Africa, as well as opportunities and strategies for tourism investment through sport in Africa.

During the 2023 Africa Investment Forum last November in Morocco, experts predicted an eight percent increase in the sports industry in Africa in the next three to five years. Enditem

YAOUNDE, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) — Gunmen have killed two hostages and released seven others in Cameroon’s restive Anglophone region of Northwest, local authorities said on Friday.

The freed hostages, including four women, were received early Friday by Adamu Shuaibu Ibrahim, the sub-prefect of Ndu, a subdivision of the region.

It was not immediately clear if they were freed after a military operation or if a ransom had been paid for their release.

They were abducted on Tuesday along with an official in the region’s Ntumbaw village while on their way to an official ceremony.
