Lion Forge Entertainment has announced that its highly anticipated Nigerian superhero animated series, Iyanu, created by Roye Okupe of YouNeek Studios, will premiere across Africa on Showmax in 2025.
The series, adapted from Okupe’s acclaimed graphic novel series published by Dark Horse Comics, will also air on Cartoon Network and Max in the United States, marking a significant leap for African animation onto the global stage.
Set in the mystical realm of Yorubaland, Iyanu stands out with its all-Nigerian voice cast, led by Serah Johnson as Iyanu, and its unique blend of cultural authenticity with universal themes of heroism and adventure.
The series follows the journey of an orphaned heroine who must unravel the secrets of her newfound powers to break an ancient curse plaguing her people. The cast also includes industry luminaries such as Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Stella Damasus, Shaffy Bello, and Blossom Chukwujekwu.
Produced by Lion Forge Entertainment, known for the Oscar-winning short Hair Love, Iyanu represents a significant milestone in African animation. It beautifully blends cultural authenticity with universal themes of heroism and adventure, making it a source of pride for African audiences.
