The season 2 finale of ?Marvel?s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? left fans with a bunch of lingering questions. While the fate of some beloved characters won?t be revealed until the third season premiere in the fall, executive producer Jeffrey Bell is willing to address some of the shocking events in the last episode.
In the two-hour finale, [SPOILER ALERT!] Simmons was absorbed by the Kree Monolith after she agreed to go on a date with Fitz. Speaking to Variety, Bell says he doesn?t think the cliffhanger is ?evil,? jokingly adding that ?maybe that thing took [Simmons] to Disneyland and she?s riding on the ?Cars? ride, having the time of her life!?
On the decision to put Simmons in such storyline, Bell admits it?s their way to attract more viewers, because they believe it has more shock value than killing off a character. ?We prefer to leave you with something to talk about, to walk away with. This is something that came up in the room, we talked about what it meant? The idea of getting Fitz and Simmons ? who had been one person ? to become two whole people, come back together, agree to go on a date, and then have this happen, felt beautifully poetic and promises some really intriguing stories next season, which is really what it?s all about,? he explains.
Meanwhile, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bell talks about whether the super-powered team that Skye is assigned to is the beginning of a Secret Warriors. He says, ?There is the Secret Warriors and Daisy Johnson does run a team for Fury of powered people that is secret and off the grid ? people who are not on the Index or anything like that. The fact that we have a character named Daisy who is talking to Coulson about filling that role is a nod in that direction.?
Bell stresses that these super-powered individuals won?t take over the show, but adds, ?I do expect for us to investigate this plan that Skye and Coulson have about starting something that could be pretty entertaining.?
Asked about the ?Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? spin-off focusing on Bobbi and Hunter that didn?t come to fruition, Bell says he ?can?t really talk about any of that. I know that came out of everybody at the studio and network loving those characters and had lots of story ideas for them and so that will continue to be true when they return to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
