Instead of being nervous during interviews, job applicants have been advised to blow their own horns and impress the panel.
Communications Officer at L?aine, Aba Enyimayew said interviews which are now called chats are the best selling points for applicants and they must make good use of that opportunity.
Whilst conceding that being nervous is a natural phenomenon, she was quick to add that the panel, who are also humans like the applicant, are looking for the smartest, articulate and intelligent applicants for the vacant position.
She was speaking on the You?re Hired series on the Super morning show on Joy FM.

She explained first impressions does count in interviews and prospective applicants are free to boast and sell themselves well. She said the first step every applicant should take when invited for an interview is to research on the company they are applying to, and the position they are applying for.
?That way they are able to have a fair idea what the company stands for and what it expects of the candidates,? she said.
She was quick to add that applicants must take note of the little but important issues such as strong perfumes, body odour, poorly trimmed finger nails, hair styles etc during interviews.
The CV that attracts
Blossom Osman, Unit head, Commercial and Banks at L?aine said the common mistakes committed by applicants is to squeeze every detail in a one paged CV.
She said the CVs must have at least three pages, well bulleted points, explaining in clear terms the objectives, competencies of the applicant.
She said applicants must first seek approval from people before using them as referees.
There are too many cases where employers call referees to find out more about applicant only for the referees to deny the applicant, she indicated.
