The ladies were arrested at about 2 a.m. in an area notorious for crime

The Jos Police Command, on Thursday, arraigned three girls before the state Magistrate Court for allegedly belonging to a gang of thieves.

The trio, Joy Ferbian, 20, Rebecca Stephen, 23 and Felicia Stephen, 20 were docked before Chief Magistrate Talatu Gada, on a one-count charge of belonging to a gang of thieves.

The police prosecutor, Ado Ali, told the court that the accused persons, who reside at Rukuba area of Jos, are being tried for roaming about aimlessly in the middle of the night.

The prosecutor said the accused were arrested by a police patrol team led by ASP Christopher Okeke on August 24, at about 2.00 a.m. around West of Mines, an area notorious for thefts and all manners of crimes in the state.

?In that particular area in Jos, criminals snatch people’s property at odd hours,? he said.

Ali alleged that during police investigation, the suspects could not give a satisfactory explanation as to what they were doing in that place at that time.

?My Lord, the accused failed to give concrete explanation as to why they were still outside at that odd hour,? he told the court.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused had committed an offence contrary to section 305 of the Penal Code.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge and applied to the court for bail.

Magistrate Gada granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
