An explosion on Friday led to reports of the deaths of two soldiers

The Joint Task Force in Borno state has denied the death of soldiers attached to its Operation Restore Order in Maiduguri. There was an explosion on Friday night, and reports emerged that two soldiers were killed.

However, the JTF spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Sagir Musa, claimed that five terrorists were killed while two soldiers and a teenager were wounded in the blast.

?There was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack targeted at JTF?s patrol team at Ruwan Zafi, Dikwa ? Gamboru Road in Maiduguri metropolis by suspected Boko Haram terrorists,” Musa said.

Musa further clarified that a fuel propelled Improvised Explosive Device was used by the terrorists during the attack which resulted in a fire outbreak that burnt some adjoining shops.

The incident, he said, happened at about 6pm on Friday August 31, 2012.
