… Because He was He Grandmother’s sisters son

The sleepless nights of Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, former National Chairman of the largest opposition party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) got worsened in Court yesterday when the Justice of High Court 8, Accra, ordered that a bench warrant be issued to arrest Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and ensure that he attends Court to answer Contempt charges brought against him by two NPP members from Okaikoi North Constituency in Accra.

Making the call for bench warrant, Ms Naomi Nelson Cofie, an Accra barrister told the Court that even though the former NPP National Chairman was aware that the contempt case would be mentioned on 31st July, 2014 the advertising top guru deliberately chose to stay outside.

Ms Nelson Cofie had brought the contempt charges because even though there was a motion pending against the NPP National chairman seeking to restrain Okaikoi North Constituency executives from holding themselves out as such, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and the Greater Accra Regional Chairman Ishmael Ashittey allowed them to go ahead and vote in the recent national executive elections in Tamale.

The Accra barrister demanded bench warrant to enforce respect for the Court.

Drama unfolded in the Courtroom when after about an hour, Her Lordship the High Court Judge Ms. Naa Adoley Azu decided to cancel the bench warrant and decline jurisdiction in the matter citing affinity as Jake Obetsebi Lamptey was her grandmother?s sister?s son!!!

The contempt docket is therefore to be sent to the Chief Justice for re-allocation to another judge to sit on the case. Stay tuned
