All striking state attorneys who failed to turn up for work risk being sanctioned by the Justice Minister.
A statement from the ministry signed by the chief director Suleman Ahmed says the state attorneys have up to today to report to work or risk being sanctioned.
The state attorneys were outraged over government’s failure to implement last year’s arbitration order for their salaries to be harmonized with that of the members of the lower bench.
They are also demanding payment of arrears and provision of some office equipment. On Wednesday a meeting with the National Labour Commission was widely reported as inconclusive giving way for the attorneys to begin their strike.
However, according to the statement, the commission issued a directive yesterday declaring the strike by the members of the state attorneys illegal and unlawful.
