Kamala Harris Secures Democratic Nomination with Broad Delegate Support

The Associated Press and CBS News survey found that Vice President Kamala Harris, with her significant and broad support from Democratic delegates, has made history by becoming the party’s nominee for president.

She has surpassed the threshold of 1,976 delegates needed in the first round of voting. Harris is proud of the widespread backing she has received and is expecting to accept the nomination formally.

The Democratic National Convention (DNC), a pivotal event scheduled for August 1-7, will see delegates casting their votes. It’s important to note that these endorsements are non-binding, adding an element of unpredictability to the process.

Delegations from 27 states have confirmed full support for Harris, a significant show of momentum following President Joe Biden’s recent withdrawal from the race.

Harris has experienced a surge in campaign donations and endorsements from key Democratic figures. She underscored the significant challenges that lie ahead leading up to Election Day, emphasizing the importance of every vote.

Harris addressed her campaign staff in Wilmington, Delaware, and highlighted her vision for the nation, comparing it with President Donald Trump’s agenda.

She reflected on her tenure as Biden’s vice president, describing it as one of her life’s greatest honours. Harris pledged to unite not just Democrats, but the entire nation, under her leadership.

Harris emphasized the stark choice between competing visions for America’s future, stating, “We have 106 days until Election Day, and in that time, we have some hard work to do.”
