The ‘KASA’ road safety campaign kicked off on Saturday at the bustling Madina Trotro Station in Accra, marking a pivotal step towards fostering safer travel experiences across Ghana’s roadways.
The campaign, initiated to empower passengers to speak out against reckless driving, is poised to enhance road safety awareness and practices significantly.
Central to the launch was the distribution of stickers to trotro owners and drivers, who were rewarded with various incentives, including fuel coupons, car batteries, and wiper blades. These tokens of appreciation underscored their pivotal role in promoting safe driving behaviours.
Volunteers, impassioned by the mission to improve road safety, actively engaged with drivers and passengers, affixing stickers on rotors and fostering dialogue on responsible road usage.
Team leader Akosua Afriyie, speaking to Asaase News, outlined the campaign’s ambitious targets, including placing 1,000 stickers on trotros by the end of August 2024.
Beyond this initial phase, Afriyie expressed aspirations to expand the campaign nationally within five years, buoyed by community support and strategic partnerships.
“The overwhelming support from drivers and passengers at Madina Trotro Station is truly encouraging,” Afriyie remarked.
She highlighted the positive feedback received, with drivers acknowledging the campaign’s importance in promoting road safety and passengers embracing their role in advocating for safer journeys.
The ‘KASA’ campaign has garnered vital backing from esteemed partners such as the National Road Safety Authority, D-Prize, IREX, the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, and TroTro Diaries.
Their collaborative efforts amplify the impact and reach of ‘KASA’ for Safety.
We are open to your feedback and suggestions. ‘We are committed to harnessing collective efforts towards achieving our vision of safer roads across Ghana,’ Afriyie affirmed, underscoring the campaign’s dedication to making a lasting difference in road safety practices.
