West African Senior High School (WASS) defeated Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon by 15 – 8, in a thrilling final match to win the maiden edition of the KBgh Invitational Basketball tournament at the PRESEC Basketball court on Saturday.

Both teams made it into the final after series of matches against other competing schools, but it was PRESEC who looked a pale shadow of themselves in the final game.

WASS dominated the game from the start with diminutive but experienced guard Prosper Adzin controlling affairs as he set his teammates up for wide open layups with his accurate passes and top ball handling plays.
The host fans grew more frustrated at each passing minute of the game as their side missed most of their attempts at the basket.
Prosper Adzin of WASS having scored 28 points for his team throughout the competition was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament. He was presented with a trophy.

Adzin said he was happy to win the award, adding that, it will motivate him to work harder.
WASS dominated the All Stars team with three of their players making the list. The list include Abdul Karim Maina (point guard), Prosper Adzin (looting guard), and David Dzissah (power forward) all of WASS. The rest of the team is made up of Caleb Nfodjo (final forward) and Ofori Gorliku (center), all of PRESEC.

Meanwhile St. Thomas Acquinas Senior High School beat Achimota School 22-18 in a tough game to place third.

Five schools competed in the maiden edition of the KBgh invitational tournament; Achimota School, St. Thomas Acquinas Senior High School, PRESEC (Legon), Labone Senior High School and WASS.

According to the organisers, the objective of the tournament was to help unearth and nurture talents for the country.

Rene Buer Plahar, partner at KBgh noted that, their outfit was impressed with the first edition, particularly with the talents discovered, adding that, they will make the tournament a yearly feature on the academic calendar.

KBgh, a local sports wear manufacturing company, presented a giant trophy to the winners.
