Kenya bourse traded volume surges on outflows

The volume of shares traded at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) increased by 13 percent on Wednesday boosted by increased outflows.

The market recorded 36.5 million shares worth 11 million U.S. dollars from 32.2 million shares worth 10 million dollars on Tuesday.

Foreign participa­tion accounted for 73 percent of the total turnover, recording a high net outflow of mainly Safaricom shares.

The most-traded stocks were Safaricom moving 23 million shares, followed by Kenya Commercial Bank 4.3 million, Equity Bank 2.1 million, Barclays Bank 1.4 million and Cooperative Bank 1.2 million shares.

The NSE 20 Share Index declined 2.53 points to stand at 3,694.74, while the All Share Index (NASI) was up 0.58 points to stand at 180.54. On the other hand, the NSE 25 Share index gained 15.17 points to stand at 4,716.47.

Bond turnover increased by 8.6 percent to stand at 24 million dollars compared to 22 million dollars traded Tuesday. Enditem
