Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat Acting Director General Gituro Wainaina told Xinhua in Nairobi that the country lacks the specialists to conduct services such as exploration.
Kenya discovered oil in 2012 and has confirmed oil reserves of approximately one billion barrels in its northwestern region.
Wainaina said that most of the oil and gas sector jobs will be created in the direct services such as oil field construction and environmental services and in indirect services such as accommodation, waste management and security.
He said that Kenya’s vocational training centers will be reformed to ensure they train the personnel required for the hydrocarbon sector.
The Director General said that the government will ensure that local communities from the oil and gas regions benefit from the resource.
SOGA Program Director Sonja Palm said that the oil and gas discoveries in the Eastern Africa region provides a massive opportunity for increasing employment opportunities and poverty reduction. Enditem
