Inflation rose to 6.72 per cent year-on-year in October from 5.97 per cent a month earlier, and month-on-month inflation was 0.50 per cent, the bureau said in a statement.

The statistics agency said the food and non-alcoholic drinks index – which has a 36.04 per cent weighting in the basket of goods used to measure inflation – rose 11.27 per cent year-on-year and 0.88 per cent from a month earlier.

Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ index rose 0.69 percent from a month earlier and 3.96 per cent year-on year. The index has an 18.30 per cent weighting and is second after food and non-alcoholic drinks.
