The Kenya women footballers, Harambee Starlets, will be the only African team among the 10 squads to compete in the Turkish Cup in Ankara from March 2-11.
Head coach David Ouma opted to name a home-based squad for the tournament, which features Kenya, Hungary, Venezuela, China’s SAR Hong Kong, Romania, Uzbekistan, Northern Ireland, Turkmenistan, Chile and the hosts.
“I am happy the Starlets have been recognized and invited to this international tournament. It will be a good avenue to gauge our players ahead of the upcoming qualifiers,” Ouma said on Wednesday.
Ouma will trim down his squad to 21 after two weeks of training prior to their departure to Turkey on March 2.
The team is expected to hit camp on Feb. 23 in Nairobi for a local friendly match on Feb. 28.
Ouma also called up uncapped players including Jane Njeri, Cynthia Shilwatso, Cynthia Kaveya and Rachael Muema. Enditem
