Kenyan bourse ends week high as turnover, key index rise


Kenya’s Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) closed the week higher as both turnover and the benchmark index sustained an upward growth.

Turnover stood at 7.4 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 21.4 million shares, from 20 million shares worth 6 million dollars on Thursday.

Similarly, the NSE 20 Share Index ended the week at 3,723.30 after rising from 3,705.36.

However, the All Share Index (NASI) declined marginally to stand at 179.48 from 179.79 while the NSE 25 Share index ended at 4,693.87.

Foreign participation accounted for 56 percent of the total turnover, sustaining a high net outflow of mainly Safaricom shares.

The most-traded stocks were Safaricom moving 8.8 million shares, followed by Kengen 4 million, Equity Bank 2.5 million, National Bank 962,600 and Barclays Bank 899,500.
At the bond section, turnover declined to 4 million dollars down from 14 million dollars in the Thursday session. Enditem
