The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) on Friday had its key indices and volume of shares traded depressed, but turnover rose.
The NSE 20 Share Index dipped by 33.43 points to close at 3,602.33. Similarly, the All Share Index (NASI) decreased by 1.51 points to close at 176.74 while the 25 share index declined by 31.97 points closing at 4651.04.
Decline of the indices saw the market volume decrease by 22 percent in shares traded to 19 million from 24 million recorded Thursday. However, market turnover increased to 8.7 million U.S. dollars, up from 7.5 million dollars.
Local investors represented 70 percent of total turnover while foreign participation declined to 30 percent, with the foreigners maintaining net sale position.
Safaricom was the top traded stock moving 6.7 million shares followed by Equity Bank and Kenya Commercial Bank at 2.3 million shares each.
Bond turnover declined to 30 million dollars compared to 31 million dollars on Thursday, with the bond FXD2/2017/5 being investors favorite. Enditem
