Nairobi’s Kibera Law Courts Magistrate Derrick Kuto also ordered Wolf, who was arrested last week alongside a Kenyan at the Port of Mombasa in connection with a haul of cocaine that was impounded by security forces, to deposit his passport in court.

The 31-year-old Briton is charged with trafficking 99.7 kg cocaine worth 6 million dollars. The court declined to stay the ruling for a week to enable a move to the High Court as requested by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The case will be mentioned on Aug. 23. Roy Francis Mwanthi, charged with similar charges, was released on a cash bail of 300,000 dollars with an alternative 600,000 dollars bond.

Prosecutors said the two suspects and accomplices trafficked the cocaine concealed in containers, through the Kilindini port in Mombasa on July 29. They denied the charges.

According to port documents, the 18 containers were loaded on the vessel, MSC Posetano, at Santos Port in Brazil on June 20.

Each container was loaded with 520 bags of sugar. The U.S. team was also involved in the arrest of two sons of slain drug baron Ibrahim Akasha and three foreigners during sting operation on their Nyali residence in Mombasa 2014.

Wolf’s lawyer Andrew Wandabwa last week asked for his release on cash bail or bond, saying he cooperated with police after being released on a free bond.

Wandabwa also said the accused voluntarily presented himself to police when he was asked to record a statement. Enditem
