Kenyan President William Ruto has taken a significant step by dissolving his entire Cabinet, which includes all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General.
However, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi remains unaffected by this decision.
President Ruto announced, emphasizing that Principal Secretaries will oversee the Ministries’ affairs until a new definitive cabinet is appointed. He clarified that the dissolution does not extend to the office of the Deputy President.
Ruto indicated that forming the new Cabinet will involve extensive consultations across various sectors and political affiliations. The objective is to establish a broad-based government capable of accelerating radical programs to address debt challenges, enhance domestic revenue generation, expand employment opportunities, eliminate inefficiencies, and combat corruption.
“With the Cabinet Secretaries out of office, ministry accounting officers and other officials will assume operational responsibilities,” President Ruto stated, ensuring continuity in government operations under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and relevant officials.
He concluded by mentioning that additional measures will be announced shortly.
The dismissed Cabinet Secretaries had been in office for a relatively short period, appointed just two years ago. President Ruto previously conducted a reshuffle affecting eight ministries in October 2023.
The dissolution marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s governance under President Ruto’s administration, signalling a reconfiguration to address critical national challenges and optimize government efficiency.
