Kenyans will start using the Nairobi Expressway built by the Chinese in June 2022, an official said Wednesday.

Kung’u Ndung’u, director-general of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), said the progress of the construction currently stands at 75 percent, adding that completion of the 27.1 km road that links the south and the west of the capital is in sight.

He observed that more than 4,000 Kenyans have been employed by the project, giving a boost to job creation.

Ndung’u further noted that tonnes of locally-sourced construction materials have been used in the project, in addition to the engagement of local contractors to carry out road and ancillary work.

The road is expected to cut travel time from two hours during peak time to 20 minutes. Enditem
