Sumaila with the vehicle and the gallons of diesel
The Abura Dunkwa District Police Command, together with a monitoring team of MTN, has arrested a 46-year-old Kia truck driver, Issaka Sumaila, for stealing diesel belonging to MTN ? a telecommunication company operating in Ghana ? at Nyankomase Ahenkro in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
Sumaila, who was arrested on Friday, would soon be put before the Abura Dunkwa District Magistrate court for trial.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Abura Dunkwa District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum Berimah, said it was around 11:00 pm that day when they had information that the suspect had parked 49 gallons of diesel belonging to MTN in a vehicle.
The report, he said, compelled the police to rush to the scene and the suspect was arrested.
He added that upon interrogation, the suspect claimed he was hired by one James Koufi from Accra to come and take his goods from Abakrampa where the MTN mast had been erected.
The police boss said Sumaila claimed his accomplice went and siphoned 120 gallons of diesel from a generator placed by the mast, which was used to supply power whenever there was black-out, and then went and sold the fuel for GH?900 at a nearby community to a man he could not identify.
According to the police, Sumaila pointed out that Koufi took to his heels upon seeing the police and left him behind, leading to his arrest.
A bench warrant has been issued for Koufi?s arrest, while Sumaila is still in police custody.
