King Salam Global Academy and OIC observes World Arabic Language Day


The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language are organizing for the second year in a row a program to celebrate the World Arabic Language Day under the auspices of the His Highness Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Academy. The program will be held under the theme: Arabic – Language of Poetry and Arts and it is in continuation of the Academy’s efforts to organize activities and programs on this occasion within and outside Saudi Arabia, including at the United Nations, which was held at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The celebration which will be held at the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah on 14 January 2024 will be inaugurated by the OIC Secretary-General Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Academy Professor Bin Abdullah Saleh Al Washmi, the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the OIC Dr. Saleh Bin Hamad Al Suhaibani, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Shaheen Abdulayev. The inauguration will also be witnessed by ambassadors and permanent representatives of OIC Member States.

The celebration of the World Arabic Language Day at the OIC will have two discussion sessions. The first is titled: “Arabic Poetry in Islamic Countries – Effect and Emotion” while the title of the second session is: “Arabic Language Arts in Islamic Countries.” Personalities representing the OIC organs, the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) will participate in the sessions.

The event will be interspersed by poetry sessions showcasing extracts from the collections of poets from the Islamic world and will be read by three poets, namely Muhammad Ibrahim Muhammad Yaqub (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Bahrudeen Abdullah (Republic of Sudan) and Abdullah Muhammad Ubaid (Republic of Yemen).

The event will also feature an Arabic poetry exhibition where selected odes from The Hanged Poems (Al-Mualaqaat Al ‘Ashr). There will also be another presentation of selected odes from the early Islamic era and later periods. The event will offer an opportunity to know the Academy and its various activities, programs and initiatives.
