Agriculture Extension Officers in the Kpone â€“Katamanso Municipality have taken delivery of 17 brand new motor-bicycles to boost government’s planting for food and jobs policy within the Municipality.
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) through the Kpone â€“Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) procured the 17 motorbikes and one pick-up vehicle for the Municipal Food and Agriculture Office.
Mr. Solomon Tettey Appiah , Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive, presenting the motorbikes, stated that, the motorbikes were to help them alleviate some of their logistical challenges and meet their targets.
He further noted that, the challenge of reaching farmers at long distances was going to be a thing of the past in the Municipality as he advised the beneficiaries to do regular maintenance
Mr. Appiah cautioned them against using it for illegal activities stressing that “the motorbikes are properties of the assembly and anyone found violating the rules would be dealt with ruthlessly”.
He also urged them to acquire the necessary driving license before riding.
Mrs Ernestina Tetebea Agyiri , Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Food Agriculture Officer, expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, indicating that the presentation of the motorbikes was very timely and it would enhance frequent and proper supervision by the extension officers to increase ffood production.
She assured that they would be put to good use to make agriculture very attractive in the Municipality.
Ms. Gladys Tuuteng, a Veterinary Technician and beneficiary, noted that, she could now reach out to her clients who needed frequent veterinary attention without difficulty.
She diclosed there were a lot of untreated rabbies cases within the Municipality due to the distance between her office and where the cases were adding that “I can now visit all my clients and solve their problems”.
