A new legal challenge has been mounted against the recent extension of Vice-Chancellor Prof Akosua Dickson’sDickson’s tenure at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), with Isaac Mensah, a stores superintendent at the University’s Procurement Department, filing a lawsuit at the High Court.
Mensah is seeking to quash the extension, alleging “illegality and procedural impropriety” in the decision by the governing council. He argues that upholding the extension would violate university statutes and deprive other qualified candidates of the opportunity to vie for the vice-chancellor position.
This lawsuit follows a previous legal action initiated by an alumnus challenging Prof Dickson’s reappointment, scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday, July 30.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Youth Association (AYA) is mobilizing efforts to engage stakeholders on the issue, prompted by a petition from the KNUST branch of the Asante Students Union.
AYA Secretary Tweneboah Kodua indicated plans to involve the Manhyia Palace to mediate and resolve the dispute, emphasizing KNUST’sKNUST’s significance to Asanteman and the role of Asantehene as its chancellor.
