Mr Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Champion, known in the wrestling circles as Kofi Kingston, will be visiting Ghana, his homeland, from Thursday, May 30 to Sunday, June 2.
A statement issued by the Planning Committee and made available to the Ghana News Agency by the Ghana Tourism Authority said the World Champion considered this “Year of Return” as a unique opportunity to make a historic visit to Ghana at the height of his wrestling career.
The “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” is a major marketing campaign targeting the African–American and Diaspora markets to mark 400 years of the first enslaved Africans arriving in Jamestown, Virginia.
The four-day visit would see a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Presidency and a visit to the Manhyia Palace to pay homage to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The statement said other activities include a Children’s Rally, visits to tourist sites like the Lake Bosomtwe, the Christiansborg Castle, Bonwire and Ntonso.
It said the World Champion would also pay a visit to the Mother and Baby Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and to Ejisu and Atwima Techiman, which were his paternal and maternal hometowns respectively.
“There will also be media engagements and in-studio interviews,” it added.
The WWE crew, who are currently shooting a documentary on the World Champion, would accompany him.
