Kumasi Asante Kotoko is gearing up confidently for their clash against arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the inaugural Democracy Cup on Wednesday (17 July).

Assistant coach David Dickson Ocloo expressed optimism about Kotoko’s prospects despite significant player changes following the conclusion of the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League season.

“We have prepared well despite the player turnover. We have capable players ready to step up,” said Ocloo. “Training has been positive, and we are determined to defeat Accra Hearts of Oak.”

Captain Frederick Asare echoed Ocloo’s sentiments, acknowledging the team’s recent league disappointments and emphasizing their commitment to victory. “We aim to satisfy our fans and believe we will emerge victorious tomorrow,” Asare affirmed.

The eagerly anticipated match at Accra Sports Stadium, organized by Ghana’s parliament to commemorate 30 years of democracy, carries high stakes.

The victor not only secures the inaugural Democracy Cup and local bragging rights but also earns the opportunity to face Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit DC United in the United States.

“This additional motivation drives both the technical team and players to strive for success tomorrow,” added Ocloo, underlining Kotoko’s determination to deliver a standout performance in this prestigious event.
