Kpando Senior High School in the Kpando Municipality of the Volta Region, otherwise called KPASEC, for short is a co-educational institution with boarding and day students exceeding 1008 in total, where 506 are boys and 452 girls with 83 Teaching staff is now 60 years. The school was established in 1953 as purely a day school, hence it was known as Kpando Day Secondary School until 1966 when it was granted full boarding status, opened with 9 students on January 26th?1953 by the first headmaster late Mr. J .C . Bowron.
KPASEC developed into sixth form school in 1965/66 academic year under the headship of Mr. Kenneth Luther Purser, a Jamaican who did his best to help the school. With the phasing out the old system as a result of government education reform programmers in 1991, the first batch of the new system that?s SSS students was admitted in January 1991.
The School aimed of providing the best quality education, in all its forms for each individual in the school, by achieving factual potentials of encouragement from the students. It also ensures excellence in learning and teaching to prepare students for better life, socially and morally as well as academically, with its motto LUX ET VERITUS meaning Light and Truth.
Kpasec offer 6 Programs which are General Arts, General Science, Business Accounting, Business Secretarial, Agricultural Science and Vocational Courses with well equipped Workshop for praticals, ICT laboratory and school Library filled with adequate Research books, by also giving admissions on merit as laid down by the Ghana Education Service to all students in an acceptance undertaking letters signed by Parents and Guardians and engages in all sporting activities.
Government and COCOBOD has offer scholarships schemes for brilliant students by awarding them annually, based on merit whereas COCBOD scholarship is awarded on application by parents to the awarding authority and has bidding rules and regulations with penalties charges governing the school while all students are to obey it.
The School has currently Launches its 60th?Anniversary at Christ the King Parish Hall in Accra, honored by Mr. Prosper Bani current Chief of Staff, and Preparation are ongoing for the generally celebration on 9thNovember 2013 at Kpando.
The current Headmaster of KAPSEC, Mr. Daniel Diboa at the launching ceremony express his gratitude to the founding fathers, all former Headmasters, the school board members, community members and Land lords who generously donated about 60.99 acres of land for the establishment and growth of the school.
He said from all indications KAPSEC has come back to its glorious days. Discipline has returned to the school, and thanks all the new crop of school Prefects and new staff appointments made Every Tom Dick and Harry is alive to their responsibilities by saying Ayekoo to all.
Mr. Daniel said in 2009, we presented 372n candidates for the WASSCE, 103 passed in all 8 subjects, 108 passed in 7 subjects and 91 also passed in 6 subjects, which the percentage pass in 6 or more subjects was 81.2%, while the overall was 100% till date.
He further express the numerous projects done by the Old Students Association, PTA, the GETFUND, and stated that the school compound roads has been awarded on contract in April 2013 and working is in progress speedily executed to meet the deadline before the 60th?Anniversary celebration and appeal to all agencies and the Government to get an Administration block, school bus, staff bungalow, portable water for domestics purposes, among others to improve the high standard of Education in the school.
The school has over the years celebrates its 25th?and 40th?Anniversary attended by the two Ex. Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufour, KAPSEC , a vibrant school with highly qualified staff and discipline students who excel in all fields of human endeavor.
