The Deputy Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Decmocratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah has urged Ghanaians to heed to former -president John Agyekum Kufuor?s advice not to vote for the flag-bearer of opposition New Patriotic Party r, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He said since Mr. Kufuor professed to have known the NPP flag-bearer for over 40 years, everything he says about him (Nana) must be taken seriously.
?President Kufuor knows Nana Akufo-Addo too well; he is gradually and systematically admonishing Ghanaians not to vote for him (Nana) as president? Nkansah added.
Former president Kufuor in an interview on Okay FM in Accra Friday, is quoted to have asked Ghanaians to elect a president who would best serve their interest.
Mr. Kufuor is said to have admonished Ghanaians not to vote based on ethnicity but vote for someone with good policies and programmes which would propel the country to a higher pedestal.
Mr. Kufuor, when asked his preferred candidate for the presidency, however, declined to mention any name but left it for the electorate to make their own choices based on their living standards ahead of the December 7 general election.
Speaking on Asempa FM?S Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Solomon Nkansah said former president Kufuor’s failure to mention the name of his party flag-bearer is an indication of a vote of no confidence in Nana Akufo-Addo.
He explained that former president Kufuor does not want to put the future of the country in the hands of someone who is prepared to use fair or foul means to win the December elections at all cost.
Solomon Nkansah noted that the recent comment by Mr. Kufuor was intentional because the former president knows he would not be at peace if Nana Akufo-Addo becomes president.
He claimed that former president Kufuor is at peace with president John Evans Atta Mills as president and enjoys the greatest respect across the country.
The deputy Propaganda Secretary said the NPP has nothing good to offer Ghanaians but to loot the revenue of Ghana?s oil revenue, hence must be rejected for the second time in 2012 and vote massively for the ?God-ordained President Mills?.
The National Organizer of the NDC Yaw Boateng Gyan who called into the programme commended former president Kufuor for being a true statesman.
He said Mr. Kufuor has proven beyond reasonable doubt that Ghana?s interest supersedes that of the NPP.
Yaw Boateng Gyan said former president Kufuor could have easily mentioned Nana Addo?s name if he (Nana) is the best person for Ghana.
In a quick rebuttal, Frank Agyekum, spokesperson for former president Kufuor, said the NDC has misconstrued Mr. Kufuor?s comments just want to play mischief.
He explained that former president Kufuor is the Chairman of Nana Addo?s advisory campaign team and would be very unusual for him (Kufuor) to declare his support for an opponent.
Frank Agyekum stated unequivocally that former president Kufuor supports Nana Addo 100 percent and will be very happy to raise Nana’s hand as winner of the December elections.
