Former President Kufuor has described as “irresponsible” comments made by former Chief Executive Officer?(CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Tsatsu Tsikata claiming Mr. Kufuor acted as a debt collector for French Bank Societe-Generale.?
Mr. Frank Agyekum in an interview with?Citi News?said: ?We believe what he said was irresponsible and it was not right for him to try and cast aspersions at the former President.”
Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata who was testifying about GNPC?s indebtedness to Societe Generale on Tuesday, told the judgment debt commission that former President John Kufuor was virtually a?debt collector?for Societe Generale as far as the Corporation’s indebtedness to the Bank was concerned.?
He also indicated that as of December, 2000 there was no judgment debt against the GNPC.?
Mr. Agyekum however, stated that the former President acted in the interest of the nation and could not be impugned for any wrongdoing.
?People should not even before conclusions are raised, begin to try and impugn wrong doings or wrong motives to people and also begin to subject them to name calling,? he said.?
In his opinion, what is most important is that a drill ship was sold by the government in the interest of the country ?… if however issues have come against the sale of the drill ship, the important thing now is that the issue is being investigated by the Sole Commissioner.?
He therefore called on all who have been indicted in the sale of the drill ship, to help Sole Commissioner reach a good conclusion.
