Ghanaian artist Kurl Songx has discussed the controversy that emerged from Sarkodie’s verse on his 2017 song, ‘Jennifer Lomotey.’

In an interview on Onua FM’s Adwuma Adwuma, Songx revealed that Sarkodie’s lyrics, which referenced a well-known folklore about Krobo women, sparked significant agitation among Krobo chiefs and elders.

Sarkodie’s verse included the line: “Krobonii baa papa a ahweneɛ da ne sisi, Komfo Anokye de adwaman abɔ no dua,” translating to “A beautiful Krobo lady with beads on her waist has been cursed with promiscuity by Komfo Anokye.”

This reference led to widespread upset within the Krobo community.

To address the concerns, Kurl Songx, Sarkodie, Sarkodie’s late lawyer, and Songx’s manager met with Krobo elders in East Legon.

“We understood that it was part of the industry’s dynamics. We met with the elders and resolved the issue amicably,” Songx explained during the interview with Felicia Osei on August 22.

Songx clarified that the lyrics were intended as an artistic expression rather than a personal attack on Krobo women. He emphasized that Sarkodie’s words were not meant to harm anyone’s reputation but were instead a part of the creative process, inviting the audience to appreciate the artistry behind the controversy.

Thanks to the understanding and cooperation of the elders, the situation was resolved. Sarkodie’s words were purely artistic and not meant to tarnish anyone’s image,” Songx added.
