The 44th Ministerial Conference of the International Organization of La Francophonie, commonly referred to as La Francophonie, commenced on Saturday in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.

During the official welcoming ceremony, La Francophonie Secretary General Louise Mushikiwabo said that the conference’s primary focus is to deliberate on the organization’s blueprint for the years 2024 to 2027.

This year’s theme, “Good Governance: A Guarantee of Political, Economic, and Cultural Stability for French-speaking Citizens,” covers common challenges, with a particular emphasis on youth employment and digitization as means to enhance cooperation and economic integration in the French-speaking world.

The Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie, one of the three bodies enshrined in the Charter of La Francophonie, is responsible for overseeing the implementation of decisions made during La Francophonie Summits. It also addresses specific subjects, including the participation of French-speaking states in peacekeeping operations and the promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity.
