Lady of Grace Hospital Records Zero Maternal Mortality


Zero Maternal Mortality was recorded at our Lady of Grace Hospital (OLGH), Breman Asikuma in 2016 as against two in 2015 and two in 2014.

Dr. Francis Bentil, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, disclosed in a presentation at the 2016 annual performance review summit, organized by Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service.

He said the facility also recorded zero Institutional fatality in 2016 as against two in 2015 and two in 2014.

Dr. Benti said the results came about due to proper planning by the facility, team work by the midwifes, nurses and the laboratory staff, Sub-District Health Management Team, and family members of the pregnant women.

A total of 57 Still births were recorded in 2016 as against 48 in 2015, he added.

He said to sustain the achievements made, there was the need for the sub-district management teams, especially the midwifes to use Patograph to conduction labor and refer promptly to the hospital for delivery, when the need arose.

Dr. Bentil disclosed that Out Patient Department (OPD) attendants decreased from 87,387 in 2014 to 87,269 in 2015 and to 81,717 in 2016, with clients who used insured cards increasing to 71,363 in 2016 as against 56,566 in 2015 and 68,508 in 2014.

He said malaria still topped the cases reported at the OPD with 15,614 in 2016 as against 16,402 in 2015, followed by Acute Eye Infection which had 5,968 in 2015. Hypertension cases recorded in 2016 were 5,919.

The Medical Superintendent stated that during the year under review, deliveries in the Hospital increased from 2,050 in 2014 to 2,066 in 2015 and to 2,236 in 2016, adding that 454 out of the total deliveries recorded in 2014 was through Caesarean Section against 591 in 2015 and 727 in 2016.

Dr. Bentil mentioned some of the achievement gained by the facility in 2016 as the construction of a new maternity ward, focusing on Adolescent Reproduction Health and increase in human resource.

He said Promotion and sustainable quality service to increase clients and staff satisfaction to 90 percent and above was the target. This would be done by developing strategies for both public health promotion intensification, and improve staff capacity.

He appealed for support for medical equipment andlogistics to all the units in order to forge ahead.
