Hell in Lagos as flood causes road gridlocks

Occupants of thousands of cars, trucks and Lorries, groaned and cursed as they moved with less than snail speed along many Lagos roads on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall had induced flood that made movements nearly impossible with many passengers of commercial vehicle preferring to walk kilometres on foot to their destinations.

Some of the worst hit areas include Ajegunle in Ikorodu, Ikotun, Ikorodu Road, Alaka, Carter Bridge, Mushin, Ebute-Meta and Ile-epo along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Many car owners openly cursed the day, saying they wouldn?t have ventured out of their houses if they knew what nature had in stock for the day.

James Idoko, a civil servant said the rain was not a blessing as it came without early signs that would have given room for people to prepare for its outcome.

?This is not just rain. Today is my worst day in Lagos. Not that the rain was much, but the flood, where does all the water come out from?? he asked.
