wpid-Mrs-Lordina-Mahama.jpgGhana?s first lady, Lordina Mahama has called upon Ghanaian women to take a look at what they have achieved so far in their lives.

She made the call on the occasion of International Women?s Day.

?In Ghana, let us commemorate International Women’s Day recognizing the modest improvements and achievements of our women, but also realizing that as a nation we still have challenges that must be tackled,? the First Lady said.

?

According her, the occasion of the commemoration of International Women?s Day, provides us with yet another unique opportunity to reflect on the opportunities available for the enhancement of women rights across the globe.

?

She mentions that, this year?s theme of ?A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women? is a wakeup call on us as Ghanaians to take a firm stand against acts of violence, especially against our women.

Despite the efforts of government and various civil society organisations and contributing to uplifting the status of women in our beloved country, the abuse and attacks, and violations in various forms of our girls and women have not diminished appreciably.

These are things that happen daily in our country and in our homes, with people looking on unconcerned, while on other occasions there is communal complicity to prevent punishment for offenders.

She said, she is confident that the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection will rise to the occasion, work with the other relevant agencies and civil society organisations not only to raise public awareness on these issues but also implement the laws for the protection of girls and women.?
