Liberia has officially slated Jan. 22, 2024, for the inauguration of Joseph Boakai, the winner of the presidential election held recently in the West African country.

In a statement made available to Xinhua Thursday, the National Steering Committee for the inauguration of President-elect Joseph Boakai and Vice President-elect Jeremiah Koung, said the presidential inauguration will be held on the grounds of the Capitol, the seat of the national legislature in the capital of Monrovia.

The presidential inauguration, which is expected to draw dignitaries and international leaders, will be preceded by several other events, the statement said.

The probe of the outgoing government was in support of Boakai’s anti-corruption quest “and will be conducted by a reputable international firm to avoid the perception that the audit is a political witch-hunt,” according to media reports, quoting the president-elect who is currently on a visit to the United States.

Boakai has outlined a vision for Liberia that includes economic growth, social development, and continued efforts to strengthen democratic institutions.
