The killed pupils and teacher were from Kibirizi primary school in Kigoma municipality and the killed man was a resident of Bangwe.
Thadei Lyapa, Kibirizi primary school head teacher, said the lightning occurred following heavy rains that started at 11 am (EAT).
“This is a big blow to our school. Losing six pupils and a teacher is a nightmare that will never be erased from our minds,” said the head teacher.
Bakari Kambi, one of the teachers at the school, said he was teaching in a classroom and heard a huge bang that caused a stampede among pupils.
“The pupils kept running to all directions as I tried to calm them down but to no avail,” said the teacher.
When the situation was under control they found six pupils and one teacher dead, he said. “It was shocking.”
In February, a lightning strike killed six pupils and their teacher in their classroom in Kasulu district in the same region. Enditem
