Ghanaian celebrity Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, has apologised to actress Martha Ankomah after reaching an out-of-court settlement in a defamation suit.
Lilwin had previously faced backlash for a viral video in which he used derogatory language about Ankomah, questioning her prominence in the movie industry. Ankomah subsequently sued the Kumawood actor for defamation.
Earlier this week, Ankomah’s lawyer announced in court that Lilwin had requested an out-of-court settlement. When the case was called on July 31, Ankomah’s lawyer, Nii Apatu Plange, informed the court of recent developments and sought permission to approach the bench. Presiding judge Justice Forson Agyapong Baah confirmed that both parties had agreed to settle the matter.
Lilwin apologised to Ankomah in a public statement, emphasising that he never intended to insult her. “I apologise for what I did. Martha Ankomah is not only a sister but also a colleague. I accept my fault and render an unqualified apology to her. I want to use this medium to call on all of you present in the studio, Fada Dickson, Despite among others, to apologise to her for me,” he stated.
The case has been adjourned to August 15, 2024, during the legal vacation, to finalise the settlement and have the agreed terms adopted by the court as a consent judgment.
