Sammy Adu Boakye, Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, has cited space constraints as a significant impediment to the project’s development.

The Heal Komfo Anokye Project, spearheaded by the Asantehene, Osei Tutu II, is focused on upgrading the infrastructure of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

Despite notable progress, the project faces challenges due to limited space for relocating patients.

In an interview with Citi News, Boakye explained that some hospital sections are approximately 60% complete.

The project was initially scheduled for completion within 24 months. However, due to operational constraints and the need for more space to relocate patients, the timeline may need to be extended to 36 months.

“We do not have the space to move the patients so that we can access the work holistically as planned.

We can’t send the patients away due to the lack of space because the hospital is still operating. That is a significant setback we have,” Boakye said.

He highlighted that, despite the challenges, nearly $4 million has been invested in the project.

The ongoing expansion includes significant progress on the A5, A4, and A3 blocks, which are expected to be completed by the end of August.

“As the project progresses, the scope also expands,” Boakye added, acknowledging the continued need for improvement as the project progresses.

This emphasis on the need for improvement should engage the public in the project’s development.
