Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda has won three Tonys — but he tells Closer Weekly it was an even greater honor for him to work alongside Dick Van Dyke, one of his childhood heroes, in Disney’s musical film Mary Poppins Returns.
Lin-Manuel plays an apprentice of Dick’s chimney sweep from the original film, and the 92-year-old icon takes on a new role as a banker.
“I mainly talked to Dick about [his Tony-winning 1960 turn in] Bye Bye Birdie, because I played Conrad Birdie in 6th grade, so we talked a lot of song and dance,” Lin-Manuel, 38, tells Closer.
“Dick has more energy than I will ever have in my life, and it’s incredible,” gushes Lin-Manuel. “It’s humiliating, and it’s awesome!”
