Black Maidens of Ghana

On my own behalf and on behalf of the President John Dramani Mahama, I wish to congratulate our national Under-17 Women?s soccer team, the Black Maidens, for their wonderful achievement in becoming the first team at this year?s FIFA Under-17 Women?s World Cup to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition. By winning their first two matches against North Korea and Germany, the Black Maidens have shown true determination, purpose and focus as they move on to the next stage of this competition.

I was delighted to watch their beautiful displays in these two matches, especially against a highly rated team like Germany. I commend all the players and the coaching staff for what they have achieved so far. We have confidence in the Black Maidens and hope that their performance so far can be followed by even better victories that can help Ghana become World Champions in the World Under-17 Women?s Soccer Tournament.

I wish to urge all Ghanaians to offer every possible support to the Black Maidens ? through any means available on social media or by phone ? to inspire them to win the ultimate prize.

H.E. Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama
First Lady of the Republic of Ghana Accra Thursday, 20 March 2014.
